On the job for about five years, John McKarns gets ready to type up a Waukegan Speedway story in 1970. During his career at the Illinois speedway, McKarns served in a number of capacities including being the track's PM man and announcer.

Capital Super Speedway (Oregon, Wis.) on a cold Sunday afternoon in April. Frigo,
Illinois businessman and founder of ARTGO, sold the operation to McKarns prior
to the start of the '79 campaign with Reffner, Watson and Trickle being the
series' first champions.
